Meetings between the General Secretariat of the Banking Commission and the heads of banking and microfinance institutions
The General Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission organized by videoconference, on November 16 and 17, 2022, the annual meetings with the General Managers of credit institutions and financial companies on the one hand, and the main managers of large Decentralized Financial Systems (DFS) on the other part.
The opening of these meetings, which are respectively in their 7th and 2nd editions, was chaired by Mr. Jean-Claude Kassi BROU, Governor of the BCEAO, President of the Banking Commission. On this occasion, the President of the Banking Commission sent a strong message to the banking industry and microfinance players on the measures to be taken for better risk management, in the context marked by macroeconomic uncertainties at the international level.
The meeting with the banking community provided an opportunity to discuss the situation in the sector and the main issues arising on-site and documentary checks, as well as the conclusions of the latest mission of the WAEMU Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) conducted by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The concerns of the banking industry were also addressed.
As for the meeting with the top managers of large Decentralized Financial Systems (DFS), it provided an opportunity to review the difficulties related to their activity, the main risks borne by these entities as well as their level of compliance with the regulations that apply to them. applicable.
It should be noted that exchange and awareness-raising meetings were also organized with the auditors of these institutions subject to the control of the Banking Commission.
