13th Annual Joint Session of the Executive Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission (SGCB) and the Executive Secretariat of the Central African Banking Commission (SG-COBAC)
The thirteenth edition of the annual meetings between the General Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission (SGCB) and the General Secretariat of the Central African Banking Commission (SG COBAC) was held from July 6 to 7, 2026, at the Headquarters of the WAMU Banking Commission in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire).
The delegations of the two (2) institutions were led by their respective Secretaries General, Mr. Antoine TRAORE and Mr. Marcel ONDELE.
This meeting falls within the framework of the implementation of the Banking Supervision Cooperation Agreement between these two (2) supervisory authorities, notably through experience sharing and the exchange of information on recent regulatory developments, supervisory approaches, and the status of major regulated institutions operating in these jurisdictions.
Discussions focused on the overall status of supervised entities, featuring an overview of sovereign risk, the supervision of banking groups operating in the two (2) jurisdictions, and the increase in minimum share capital for banking groups in both zones. Issues relating to non-performing loans, the adversarial process during on-site inspection missions, the handling of difficulties within Microfinance Institutions, and the enhancement of anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) control frameworks were also addressed.
The next meeting, scheduled for 2027, will be hosted by the General Secretariat of the COBAC.
