The WAMU Banking Commission is the regional Supervisory Authority of banking and financial institutions, with a primary mandate to contribute financial stability across the West African Monetary Union.
It ensures depositors’ protection and contributes to enhancing the effectiveness of the financial system.
Established on April 24, 1990, by the Conference of Finance Ministers in Ouagadougou, the WAMU Banking Commission is mandated to ensure uniform and effective supervision across the region while fostering the banking integration of the monetary union.
