Experience-sharing meeting between the General Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission and the Regional Council for Public Savings and Financial Markets (CREPMF)

A meeting to share experiences was held on February 16, 2021, from 9:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., by videoconference, between the General Secretariat of the WAMU Banking Commission (SGCB) and the General Secretariat of the Regional Council for Public Savings and Financial Markets (CREPMF).

This meeting, requested by the CREPMF, is part of the implementation of the Bilateral Cooperation Agreement of June 27, 2002.

The delegations of the two Institutions were led by their respective Secretaries General, Messrs. Antoine TRAORE and Ripert BOSSOUKPE.

In his introductory speech, the Secretary General of the Banking Commission highlighted the opportunity offered by this meeting to boost the excellent collaborative relationship between the two bodies responsible for supervising important parts of the financial system. The Secretary General of the CREMPF, for his part, emphasized the reforms undertaken by his Institution with a view to modernizing the financial market surveillance tools.

The discussions focused mainly on the approval and withdrawal of approval system for credit institutions and decentralized financial systems, the on-site and off-site control systems for taxable persons, as well as the interaction between the control system and the sanctions imposed on taxable persons.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to address concerns regarding the mission of the Banking Commission, its attributions, and the on-site and off-site control methodologies.

To conclude, Mr. TRAORE reiterated the Supervisory Authority's availability to continue discussions through other channels and provided all the necessary clarifications for a better understanding of the activities carried out by the SGCB.
